How To Guard Your Energy in Public Places
As an introvert and someone who is highly sensitive to changes in energy, this is something I have struggled with my entire life. At first, I didn’t understand why I could go out somewhere and come back feeling utterly exhausted. I mean, it’s not like I was doing anything strenuous…just going into a store or other public place to leave me depleted. As I got interested in reiki and other holistic healing modalities, several people told me that it was because I was picking up negative energy from others. Or that they were taking my energy away.
However, in Reiki you are taught that the energy healing you are providing is not your own energy – you are a vessel for the Universe’s energy. So, my logical mind thought that the same must be happening when I go out in public situations. I sometimes felt like it was my obligation to keep myself open to the people who needed the energy right? But at what cost? Was it really worth me feeling so drained?
Over time, I decided to prioritize my energetic needs over others. However, during the past couple of years, leaving my apartment has significantly declined, and I fell out of the habit. Then, a couple of weekends ago, I went out for lunch with a couple of friends and when I came home, the familiar feeling of being depleted came back and I was reminded of the habit I had fallen out of.
In case you too feel the same way, I wanted to share the easiest way I know of protecting your energy and shielding you from negative energy from other people - create a forcefield.

I’m being serious! Forcefields aren’t just for science fiction or action heroes. Before you leave your home, close your eyes and imagine a forcefield around you. Your forcefield can look any way that makes sense for you (bubble, spikey ball, mirrored disco ball, or anything else you resonate with) with the intention to keep your energy in and repel negative thoughts and energies.
Try it out! Let me know how it goes or if you have another way that you protect your energy – I would love to hear about it.
