I Am Important

Have you ever written a letter to yourself? Last week, I was part of a 5-day challenge, run by the incredible Cathy Heller. If you haven’t heard her podcast (called Don’t Keep Your Day Job) do yourself and listen to one episode to see what you think – it may sound like its all about business advice, but believe me, so much of what she talks about is about inner work. I feel like I went through a week of working on myself – and her energy is through the roof!

During the challenge, she had us write two letters – one to our 7-year-old self and the other from our 80-year-old self. I found both these exercises extremely powerful – have you ever written yourself letters like these? I would love to hear how you found it. Instead of sharing those letters with you, I thought I would write a letter to my inner self about the biggest challenge I feel like I am facing right now and share that with you.

I Am Important

Dear Anjum,

Thank you for being on this journey called life with me. I know things have happened in life that has made you feel like you need to close parts of us off. That you have stopped feeling your emotions to protect me – I thank you for that. Here’s the thing though, I am stronger now than I was then. I am ready to deal with those emotions and to feel things completely again. It is okay for you to stop protecting me. I am capable of taking care of myself. I have accomplished so much in life and there is so much more that I am going to achieve. I am important. I have important work to do in this world. I have the ability to help others – but to fulfill my purpose and truly contribute to this world, I need your help in taking this wall down. Can you do that for me?

I love you.

Thank you,

Anjum

PS Thank you Linsey for this beautiful drawing as a reminder - it sits with me on my desk, so I can glance at it throughout the day
