Parts of My Heart – A Self-Love Activity

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. For me, however, this day isn’t just about love for our significant others. It is a day to celebrate love – and why shouldn’t we focus on loving ourselves too? Today I’d like to share an activity with you that’s all about self-love. You can use any kind of paper you have around for this, and any art supplies you’d like.

On a piece of paper, make a list of the things you love about yourself. It could be physical features, personality traits or anything at all. Then, list the things you don’t like about yourself too. Now I want to encourage you to look at the list of attributes you don’t like about yourself and consider how they may be serving you. For example, I don’t like that I am so analytical because I get lost in analyzing the decision that oftentimes, I don’t make one at all. However, if I look at that same characteristic in a different way, I can see that it helps me to not make rash decisions that I may later come to regret. So instead of looking at it as a negative, perhaps I can look at it in a more favourable light.

Next, I encourage you to take another sheet of paper and draw a heart. Pick some of the attributes (or all!), both positive and what you originally perceived as negative. In whatever way feels right to you, divide up the heart into sections to depict these attributes and add some colours or patterns. You can choose to label the sections, or perhaps put some affirmations in them.

Once you are done, I encourage you to put it up somewhere you can see it – perhaps it will inspire you to show yourself a little more love this Valentine’s Day and in the days that follow!

If you share yours on Instagram, tag me! I'd love to see what you create!
